In 1994, the Parkinson’s Unity Walk was created with the goal of raising awareness of Parkinson’s disease and funding for research. The Parkinson’s Unity Walk has since grown into an annual event at which the entire Parkinson’s community gathers. Since the inception, the Parkinson’s Unity Walk has made a significant impact on the Parkinson’s disease community, raising millions of dollars for Parkinson’s research. Support for the walk has grown considerably each year – from 200 participants at the first walk in 1994, to more than 10,000 last year. With 100 percent of donations given to research, the Parkinson’s Unity Walk provides the public with an opportunity to help the Parkinson’s disease community and change the lives of the millions of people suffering from the disease.
Parkinson’s disease is a neurological condition that has the potential to be a devastating and debilitating disease. It affects more than one million Americans and approximately 60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s disease are diagnosed each year.
Although there is no known cure for this disease, experts agree that there are a variety of ways to keep its symptoms under control, including medication and exercise. The Unity Walk provides the opportunity for people with Parkinson’s disease and their families to become educated on these therapies by talking to physicians, pharmaceutical companies and PD organizations.
The Unity Walk is an exciting way to bring the entire Parkinson’s community together and with your help we can make each coming year even better!
