How to make a webcast?

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by admin in how to webcast | 2 Comments »

I am wanting to make a live web cast does anyone have instructions on how to do it?

Prev yahoo answered:

"For nonprofits, video can be a powerful medium for promoting social change, mobilizing support, and showcasing work. Not only can you create influential advocacy videos (see the TechSoup articles, Make an Impact with Advocacy Videos and Camcorders in Activists’ Hands ), but you can also use video to broadcast important meetings, press conferences, and other events."

If Writer’s Market doesn’t list a contact or an editor for a magazine, whom do you address a query letter to?

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by admin in writers market | 1 Comment »

Editorial Department, Submissions, or just pick any random editor from the masthead and address it to him? If so, would it be best to pick a senior editor or associate editor, or could I address it to the editor & chief, assuming it would probably be opened & read by an assistant anyway?

The best thing to do would be to check the publisher’s Web site. They usually have detailed instructions there. Writer’s Market is a big help, but sometimes we’re still left on our own. Good luck!

Wireless Camera…?

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by admin in webcasting | 1 Comment »

I am currently webcasting live video with a Mini-DV camera hooked up to my Mac by FireWire. I want to go wireless. I still want to use my Mini-DV camera and my iMac. I want to find a good quality wireless adapter. It could be BlueTooth. The computer I use to stream live video with has BlueTooth. My camera has a USB output and a FireWire output. I don’t want the adapter to lose pixels. I want the video as clear as it is now. Can anyone help?

Kinamax makes a cheep RCA audio video transmitter/ receiver set for $34.99USD.
you can find it at tigerdirect.com, item number M501-1270

That is a simple fix. you may loose some video, and you will require a video capture card on your computer.

As of right now, I don’t know of any wireless USB-Firewire transmitters/receiver combos

Which university is better for creative writing? UCLA or The University of Iowa?

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by admin in writers workshop | 1 Comment »

I heard that Iowa’s writers workshop is one of the best in the world, but I heard UCLA isn’t that bad either. I’m serious about becoming a novelist and a poet, and I’m having trouble deciding on which college to transfer to. Any suggestions?

The University of Iowa-Iowa City is ranked in the top 7 in the U.S. for your subject and other things related to writing. It is better than UCLA in that subject so I think I would go to Iowa for that, it’s not a bad school at all, it’s ranked as a top 20 public university in the U.S. UCLA might be better in overall rankings but I think you’ll get a better job opportunity from Iowa.

How do i persuade my parents to let me use our loft as a webcast studio?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin in how to webcast | 6 Comments »

Ok basically my friend and i have a webshow which we love!!
But we REALLY need somewhere to film it and well i have a loft and i have never been in there in my life and nobody has EVER used it so why not? But my mum and dad will say NO! and also my friend wants to make the webshow weekly which would mean her coming around EVERY monday! :/ x
I havent ask them yet.

A reasonable request I would have thought, it is not like you want to stay out clubbing every night is it?
You will be indoors out of trouble and harms way, you parents will not have to worry about what time you will be coming home and your mum can make you a webcast cup of tea to sooth your talking tube. (throat) Why haven’t you ever been in this loft? You need to find out if it suitable first, have a look at it.

Want writers to write about the latest trends in the real estate market. Where can I find them?

If you are talking about real estate investments, laws and other issues, you can try www.freelancewritingdesk.com. They are excellent in doing research and coming presenting the latest facts. I use them regularly for my real estate website.

Make the control key click…?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin in webcasting | 1 Comment »

On my iMac, is there a way to make it so when I push the control key, it will click the mouse? I want to be able to click on something without making any noise when I am webcasting. The mic will pick up my mouse click. If I push the control key down gently, the mic will not pick it up, therefore I can have a quiet webcast. Do you understand what I mean?

Yeah I understand. No, the control key can’t be used to simulated the left click key. I know with mac laptops you can just enable a touch on the track pad and that will simulate a click. If the sound really is that loud, you’re probably just better of getting a quieter mouse (one with two buttons).

Hope this helps!

How many words is there in an average novel?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin in writers workshop | 6 Comments »

I am writing a novel, so far i have 50 pages in word (double spaced). I submitted the first chapter @ critters.org for ctiques from other writters (Its a writers workshop site).

I noticed that it defined a novel as 20,000 words or more and my first chapter is 4,000.
20,000 seems extremely short to me.

Does anyone know how many words an average novel consists of (I guess average being about 300 pages)

A short novel is about 60,000-65,000 words. A mid-length fantasy, though, might run 100,000-110,000. An unknown author’s first book is usually on the short side. Authors with good sales can often go way, way beyond such short word counts, but don’t assume you and I can.

One way to determine how long your novel should be is to identify 5 novels in your genre, each the author’s first. Get the word count at Amazon, using text stats. Average them, rounding to the closest 5,000 words. That’s a reasonable goal length
