Jeffrey Brown reports on the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious postgraduate writing program for elite writers and poets. The workshop celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.

1199 members took creative writing classes as part of a national Workers Writing Project in which they wrote stories about their lives as nursing home workers and union members. Some of these stories were performed on stage. In this video, youll hear some of these writers talk about the importance of discovering their own voices and what it has meant to them. In addition, with their new writing skills, members have written letters to legislators to advocate for issues that they are concerned about.
